Puffin’ turns the workouts you’re already doing into group challenges with your friends. If something isn’t working, or you’ve seen something you shouldn’t have, this page is how you reach us.

Common questions

My workouts aren’t showing up

Almost always this is Health permissions. iOS doesn’t tell an app when its read access has been refused, so a blocked permission looks exactly like having no workouts at all.

Open Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Puffin’ and make sure every category is on. Then in Puffin’, go to Settings → Re-import everything from Health. That’s always safe to run — it can’t create duplicates.

If the feed still looks empty, check you’ve actually joined a group and that someone in it has recorded something.

How do I join a group?

Ask whoever made it for the six-character invite code, then Groups → Join and type it in. To start your own, use Groups → New group and share the code it gives you.

What counts toward a challenge?

Any workout you record that starts inside the challenge’s window. A run that begins before the challenge ends and finishes afterwards still counts in full.

A workout is never used up by one challenge. Ten miles counts, in full, toward a five-mile challenge in one group and a ten-mile challenge in another — nothing is split between them. The chips underneath each workout in the feed show you exactly what it counted toward.

Why does my steps challenge have standings but no workout list?

Steps come from your daily totals in Apple Health rather than from individual workouts, so there’s no workout to attach them to. The standings are still correct.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. Puffin’ reads whatever is already in Apple Health, from any watch, phone or app. If you don’t have a watch, the Activity tab can record a workout itself — with a map of your route for outdoor sessions, and a live view on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. You can also log a workout by hand if you did it without your phone.

Where do my routes go?

Nowhere. GPS routes are saved to Apple Health on your iPhone and are drawn from there. They are never uploaded to our servers.

Who can see my workouts?

Only people in the groups you’ve joined. There is no public feed, no follower count, and no way to be discovered by strangers. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, your workouts, your comments and reactions, and your group memberships, and disconnects Puffin’ from your Apple ID. It cannot be undone.

Deleting the app on its own doesn’t delete your account — use the button first.

Puffin’ isn’t reading my workouts automatically any more

iOS throttles background updates when Low Power Mode is on, and stops them entirely if you force-quit an app. Opening Puffin’ always triggers a full sync, so the feed catches up the moment you come back to it.

Requirements

iPhone running iOS 18 or later. Sign in with Apple is required. Puffin’ needs permission to read workouts, steps and active energy from Apple Health.
